Umpire & Scorer Appointments
The ECB ACO, of which we are a County Association, is now the main body responsible for the training and development of cricket umpires and scorers. The SCB ACO is committed to the development of umpires and scorers in Surrey by providing opportunity for our members to officiate and enabling those who wish to progress their careers along the ECB umpiring and scoring pathway, particularly with the increasing number of representative and prestige appointments being made by the new ECB Regional Appointment Co-ordinators (RACs).
The SCB ACO Management Committee - that includes a representative from each of the four local associations and the Surrey Championship Umpires Panel - agreed at the November 2008 quarterly meeting that all umpire and scorer appointments previously undertaken on a local or other ad hoc basis, will now be undertaken centrally through the SCB ACO with the Appointments Officer, John White, being the primary point of contact.
SCB ACO Appointments in 2010
In 2010 the SCB ACO will be responsible for appointing umpires for all:
Surrey Clubs home ties in Rounds 1, 2 & 3 of the National Club Knockout Cup.
Surrey Senior Cricketers Association Over 50s and Over 60s County Championship matches.
Surrey County Women's team home matches in the Women's County Championship.
Surrey County Age Group Boys from U/10 to the U/19s and Academy (except for U/17 County Championship & Cup matches where appointments are being made by the ECB RAC).
Surrey U/10, U/11, U/12, U/13 & U/14 District Festivals that will be held at various venues in July & August.
Surrey U/10, U/11, U/12, U/13 & U/14 Pre-Festival League matches that will be held at various venues on Sundays and Bank Holidays in May.
Surrey County Age Group Girls U/13, U/15 & U/17 teams.
Surrey Schools Cricket Association Cup Finals.
If you would like to be considered for officiating representative matches, please e-mail John White with a brief resume of your qualifications, experience, your ECB ACO membership number, CRB Disclosure certificate number and issue date and an indication of your availability for Sunday and midweek fixtures.
Bureau Service
The SCB ACO is also committed to helping clubs and organisations find umpires and scorers either for the season or on a match-to-match or some other mutually agreed basis by operating a 'bureau' service.
Clubs and organisations are invited to e-mail their umpire and /or scorer requirements to the Appointments Officer for distribution via a central distribution list as well as being published on this site. Each club to set their own criteria with regard to minimum qualifications and/or experience and to agree fees/expenses with individual umpires and scorers.
These vacancies will be open to non-SCB ACO members, therefore individual clubs and organisations will be responsible for checking CRB clearance, insurance cover and other such issues. However we recommend that only ECB ACO members are appointed because annual membership cards are not issued without up to date CRB clearance and payment of the annual subscription that ensures automatic insurance cover.
For more information about any aspect of umpire and scorer appointments in Surrey, please e-mail John White at john@sunburynursinghomes.co.uk.
