The Panel was formed in 1987 when structured cricket came to the Surrey Championship. In those early days the sole object of the Panel was to supply Umpires for Surrey Championship matches. Since then our role has expanded greatly and although the Championship is our main priority, we now supply umpires to Surrey 2nd XI matches, Surrey Age Group matches, Cockspur Cup, National Village Competition and many other competitions. We also get asked to appoint umpires to various other corporate and friendly matches.
There are currently three main criteria that have to be met before any application to join the Panel will be considered.
- must hold ECB Level 1 (or have ACU&S GL6)
- must have a minimum of one season's regular umpiring experience
- must have up-to-date CRB clearance
It is preferred, but not essential, that umpires have taken the Intermediate/Revision course after Level 1, or have ACU&S GL5 and/or GL4.
Catchment
We draw umpires from across the county of Surrey and the other four Surrey district associations. Some panel members live in Kent, Middlesex, Berkshire and Hampshire. We also operate an exchange system with Premier League umpires from Middlesex and Kent.
Meetings
Pre-Season Meeting in April and End-of-Season/AGM in October, Surrey Cricket Centre, Burpham, 12.30pm (lunch), 2pm (start).
